Sitting at over 1750 meters above sea level, Rubirizi Hill in Burundi is home to Bukeye washing station, where 88 farmers contributed to this clean, herbaceous washed lot. Home to forward-thinking organic pesticide, mulching, fertilization, and processing techniques, Bukeye station is a prime example of how coffee is a collected, communal effort. Occasionally during the washed process, coffee parchment is “footed”, where a team will dance on and churn loose any mucilage left on the coffee. This, among many other unique efforts to make excellent, consistent coffee, should remind us what a labor of love every morning cup is.
